WA election: wrap up

While the result on Saturday was disappointing, we as a Movement can be incredibly proud of our unprecedented contribution towards re-electing the Western Australian Liberal Government.

Over the last week, our Electoral Development Officer programme embedded almost a dozen Young Liberals from across Australia into key campaigns. EDO participants supported local candidates in all sorts of activities, from letterboxing and doorknocking to prepolling, sign waving, phone canvassing, and everything in between. The WA EDO application process was exceptionally competitive with more than triple the number of applicants than the last EDO campaign.

On this campaign, we decided to launch the EDO Blog to showcase the work of participants – something that has been hugely successful with more than 3,000 unique hits. We encourage all YLs interested in participating in future EDO programmes to read the blog contributions here.

In addition to the more traditional campaign work, Young Liberals across WA acted as candidates, campaign managers, and key on-the-ground roles in seats. The commitment and dedication of Young Liberals who, as always, rose to every challenge and exceeded all expectations is a strong reflection on the future of our Movement and our Party. Following a result such as we’ve seen, these positive take-outs show that the future is very bright despite the disappointment of losing some very keen Parliamentary supporters of the Young Liberal Movement.
